The underdogs slayed some mighty beats in this week’s SOTW.

indie617’s Tommy O’Connor is our new production coordinator here at the station, and he went with a personal favorite in his inaugural week participating in the Song of the Week poll, nominating Mal Blum’s guitar-pop jam “I Don’t Want To.”

Blum, who just played Great Scott and released a new album titled Pity Boy last month, was facing some heavy competition in a trio of established artists: Pelvis Costello nominated HAIM’s “Summer Girl”; Julie Kramer nominated “All Mirrors” by Angel Olsen; and Michael Marotta nominated Tegan and Sara’s “I’ll Be Back Someday.”

But in the end, it was Blum with a clear and decisive victory, and we couldn’t be happier. The song slays.
