After last week’s Song of the Week poll shined a local light on Rival Island’s excellent new track “Steel Tide”, this week’s SOTW as we affectionately call it, pits a quartet of national tracks up for the crown.

Defending his two-week title, Morning Glory host Michael Marotta looks to Los Angeles and nominates The Wrecks’ explosive new ode of tripping out on psychedelics, “Freaking Out.” Up to the challenge is production coordinator Tommy O’Connor’s nominee of California riser Hobo Johnson and his “Subaru Crosstrek XV” (he plays House of Blues on November 11); Julie Kramer’s nominee of Death Cab For Cutie’s ode to kids killed in Washington’s Olympic Pipeline Explosion, “Kids in ’99”, and Pelvis Costello’s nominee of Lana Del Rey’s latest ballad, “The Greatest” (in advance of Friday’s release of Norman Fucking Rockwell).
