Over the weekend, Pelvis Costello filled our Saturday with a discussion about some of our favorite haunted places around New England. That got us thinking about being haunted by musicians, which then led us to today’s Quesday topic: What musician would you bring back from the dead?

Needless to say, the responses swooped in like Casper during Morning Glory’s live broadcast at Moxy Downtown Boston. I kicked off the discussion with two all-timers: Joy Division’s Ian Curtis, whose 1980 suicide at age 23 made the band’s surviving members evolve into New Order; and Marc Bolan, the T-Rex frontman who was killed in a car accident at the age of 29 back in 1977.

While we’re all curious as to how Joy Division would have evolved past Curtis’ death, Bolan’s really my top choice here, as we were really robbed of experiencing how he would have taken to the ’80s and beyond. Bolan was a true legend, way ahead of his time, and I often think about how his style, sound, and talents would have evolved into the age of new wave and electronic music.

indie617 listeners came correct on their picks, as they do, with The Clash’s Joe Strummer and Queen’s Freddie Mercury leading the way. Also noted were Amy Winehouse, Jeff Buckley, INXS’ Michael Hutchence, David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, Shannon Hoon, Prince, Phil Lynott, Mark Sandman of Treat Her Right and Morphine, and others.

Peep all the replies via the Twitter thread below. And tune in to Morning Glory every weekday from 7 to 10am.
